Adjunct EMDR Services

Adjunct EMDR services to enhance eating disorder therapy

You know your client. I know EMDR. While clients may not yet see the link between trauma and eating disorder symptoms, we as clinicians recognize how unresolved experiences can continue to drive behaviors long after the trauma has passed. Together, we target memories that continue to carry emotional intensity, allowing clients to integrate those experiences in a way that supports ongoing recovery.

I offer adjunct EMDR therapy for clients who are already established with an eating disorder therapist and could benefit from targeted trauma processing, addressing negative core beliefs, or working through experiences that continue to interfere with recovery. My role is not to replace the therapeutic relationship you've built… it's to complement it.

Clients may be a good fit for adjunct EMDR when they have the insight and skills to support recovery but continue to feel "stuck," experience persistent shame or low self-worth beliefs, struggle with trauma-related symptoms, or find that past experiences continue to fuel current eating disorder behaviors. EMDR can also target the intolerable urges that lead our clients to binge, purge, or engage in substance abuse. We’ll target the underlying memories and beliefs that may be maintaining these patterns so the client can experience lasting, positive change.

Collaboration is key with my approach. With the client's consent, I communicate with referring therapists throughout treatment to coordinate care, discuss treatment goals, and provide updates on progress. I strive to ensure that EMDR enhances, not disrupts, the important work in eating disorder therapy.

My goal is for our joint clients to build a greater sense of safety, flexibility, and capacity to fully engage in the recovery work you're already doing so well.

If you'd like to discuss whether a client may benefit from adjunct EMDR, I'd be happy to schedule a brief consultation.
